Link Building review

Page rank is a link analysis algorithm invested by the popular search engine company Google to determine the importance of a website. The page rank is assigned based on the hyperlinks from the external sites to the targeted site. The link analysis algorithm may be applied on one way link and reciprocal link. For example, if www.domain1.com has an outgoing link to www.domain2.com, the link will be counted as a vote for www.domain2.com. The vote is seen as a recommendation from someone to the website. Hence, the more backlinks the site has, the higher votes it has, and the higher it will rank on the search engine.

The pagerank of a site can be evaluated by using an online pagerank checker tool. Examples of online pagerank checker include prchecker.info, checkpagerank.net, smartpagerank.com, and iwebtool.com.

Besides looking a the volume of links to the site, it also perform assessment on the site which casts the votes. The search engine robot will crawl the site to see if it has good page building structure. If the voting site has lots of broken links, the backlink will have little value. Links from high page rank site will be given more importance compare with link from ordinary site.
When analyzing the page, Google will take into account several factors. If the linked page has page rank, the page rank will pass to your site. The higher the page rank of the linking page, the more page rank will be passed on to your site. Social Bookmarking is essential for that.
The search engine will analyze the page to see if it is on focus or off focus. On focus refers to a focus link from a related site whereas off focus refers to link from an unrelated site. For example, if you own a florist site, and the linking page belongs to a florist website, it will be an on focus link. However, if the linking page is about computer, it will be considered off focus.
It also analyzes the amount of outgoing link on the page. The more outgoing link the page has, the lesser page rank will be passed on to your site. For example, a page with 200 outgoing links will not be as effective as page will only 5 outgoing links. It is recommended that you don’t list your site in a link farm since they are considered a black hat method. A backlink from a link farm will cause your site to be penalized by the search engine. If there are many link farms that point to the site, there is a high possibility that it will get banned by the search engine.
In addition, Google will also measure the quality of the incoming link. If the site which cast the vote has good reputation and frequently add new content, Google will place more weigh on the incoming link.
Instead of getting tons of links to your site, you should only focus on getting links from important pages. Most of the time, links from .edu and .gov site are given more weigh because they are considered authoritative sites by Google. If possible, you should obtain a backlink from .edu and .gov sites.  One way of obtaining .edu and .gov backlinks is by commenting on its blogs. Most .edu and .gov site have a blog. You can perform a simple search on the search engine with the keyword “.edu or .gov blog”. Upon hitting enter, the search result will display a list of .edu and .gov blogs. You can then browse each blog to see which one to leave a comment. The link of your website should be inserted in the URL field of the comment forum. You should not include the link within the comment as they are considered spam by the blog moderator.

Does Page Rank Guarantee Top Ranking
Pagerank does not guarantee a top ranking. Besides backlinks, Google also has other requirements in order to rank a site top of the search result such as site age, on site optimization, anchor text and etc. It is best if the site which cast the vote is in the same niche as your site. If you are unable to find site that are in the same niche, you can find site related to your niche. For example, if you have a chiropractic site, you can obtain a backlink from a massage site.
Pagerank does not determine the ranking of the site. However, it can contribute in search engine optimization. It often occurs that a site with PR 1 outrank a site with PR 5. The anchor text also plays an important role in helping a page rank for a particular keyword. For example, if you want the page http://www.tshirt.com/bluewhaletshirt.html  to rank for the keyword blue whale t-shirt, you will have to use the anchor text like “Blue Whale T-shirt”. You can vary the anchor text every now and then to make it appear natural to the search engine.
If the keyword has little competition, you will be able to rank on the first spot in the search result page. If there are lots of competitions, it will take more backlinks and longer time to rank on the first page. You can check the competition for the keyword by entering in the search box of the search engine. After you hit enter, you will notice there is a note that says “Results 1 -10 about …” The numbers behind about is the amount of competing websites that are aiming for that particular keyword. The higher the number, the harder it will be to rank on the search result page.  If you want to see faster result, you should use keyword with low competition as anchor text.  Generally, you should choose keyword under 1000 competition.
The link building campaign should be performed slowly. Gaining links too quickly will cause the search engine to penalize your site. If your site is penalized by Google, it will take a long time to recover. Sometimes, gaining too many links will cause your site to be de-index and permanently banned from the search engine. To obtain the best result, the link growth should appear as natural as possible to Google.
